Quality Manager


Summary:


Our company manages the production and product quality of a variety of packaging components used in the spirits industry. These include glass bottles with a variety of decorations (decals, emblems, embossing, etc), natural and synthetic closures, labels, cellos, capsules, folding cartons, rigid boxes, bags, canisters, and wood boxes. Our products are made around the world with an emphasis on the US, Mexico and China.
We are hiring a Quality Manager to guide our company to best practices for managing quality in Development and Production.

This position will have responsibilities for performing a variety of tasks and managing a team to support the product development process on packaging projects from concept, design, pre-production, production, testing and inspection; to ensure the quality at the time of delivery to the client will impress and delight our customers. This role is responsible for providing technical support to resolve medium to high complexity package production and quality issues, identifying root cause, develop and implement solutions including training QA/Operations personnel on findings within an assigned product category. Here are some of the ways to execute the key functions of this role:

  1. Providing technical quality assurance to our product development process by:
    • Evaluating sample products during the product development process.
    • Troubleshooting new products and suppliers prior to production to reduce risk.
    • Evaluating production pieces against spec sheets to determine if the goods are acceptable and proposing solutions if needed.
    • Supporting the R&D department with testing plans, testing, regulatory advice and risk assessment for new products that our company is developing internally to present to the spirits industry at large.
    • Developing a comprehensive working knowledge of all existing packaging equipment and lines globally within the company.
    • Optimizing line performance through integration and automation of individual components or systems.
    • Increasing flexibility of existing equipment and standardize equipment design, layouts, etc. where possible.

  1. Leading and Executing Quality Management by:
    • Implementing and managing the determination of major/minor/critical defects and appropriate AQL
    • Strategically planning and implementing the product development processes with emphasis on understanding our customer requirements, our product development process, inspection and test regulations.
    • Representing Quality Assurance at risk assessments for new projects and taking required follow up actions.
    • Representing Quality at weekly production meetings and advising on strategic decisions to ensure quality.
    • Engaging with suppliers around quality issues and risks, determining the best way to achieve a positive outcome.
    • Evaluating inspection reports of productions and advising the product development team on how to proceed based on the results.
    • Maintaining and managing the CAPA process for our company, ensuring continuous improvement in our products and processes.
    • Managing the schedule of the testing lab so that all testing is done accurately and by the deadline required.
    • Occasionally meeting with quality departments at our clients.
    • Managing our relationship with our 3rd party inspection companies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year college degree in Quality, Packaging or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4-5 years in QC/QA within consumer products packaging work and project execution.
  • 2-3 years Quality Manager or supervisor experience
  • Experience leading Quality Assurance Philosophy for a growing, entrepreneurial company.
  • Packaging or bottling line integration experience
  • Packaging equipment – mechanical and controls knowledge
  • Field implementation knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Auto-cad, and similar technology such as solidworks, Revit, Cad, Fusion
  • Proficient in MS programs
  • Palletization software (CAPE) preferred
  • Certified packing professional preferred
