Payroll Specialist

Summary:

The Payroll Specialist collects and reviews employee information and working hours, calculates wages, prepares, and processes employee’s weekly payroll and maintains accurate payroll records within HRIS system. This position will include support surrounding HR information systems, compensation, and benefits. The Payroll Specialist applies corporate HR policies, procedures, and programs in accordance to company policy, federal and state laws. This position will support our Canada-based businesses.

Job Duties:

• Exports and reviews weekly payroll in Canada for Non-Union and Union Employees.
• Responsible for administration of human resource processes such as payroll, timekeeping and attendance, federal and state compliance reporting, and unemployment claims.
• Partner with our Human Resources Team to assist with Canadian HR activities such as Data Entry for Salaried New Hires, Compensation Changes, Terminations and Union Step Progression increases in HCM System.
• Responsible for completing official government forms and ensure accurate filing and distribution for year-end RL and T4 taxes.
• Provides internal customer service to employees by answering questions, resolving issues, and providing information about payroll processes and programs, doing so in an accurate and timely manner.
• Reconcile general ledger with regard to payroll transactions.
• Uploads weekly Family Responsibility Payments.
• Completes weekly ManuLife Pension and Retirement Savings Plans contributions.
• Compiles monthly Union Dues and Charity in Lieu of Contributions.
• Runs Quarterly Register Pension Plan Review.
• Manages payouts of multiple company programs, Safety, Shoes, Tools.
• Responsible for Weekly & Monthly Reporting from timekeeping and personnel operating systems.
• Assist with upcoming Canada HCM integration project.
• Partners with US Based Payroll Specialist to provide back-up support when needed.

Background Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree, in accounting/finance or related field preferred
• 3- 5 years of experience in Payroll preferred
• Experience with payroll processing in ADP Workforce Now Canada

Related Skills:

• Excellent oral and written communication and ability to work with all levels of management.
• ADP Workforce Now and Workday experience is Highly Preferred.
• Strong knowledge or tax and wage laws.
• Excellent organization and mathematical skills.
• Personal computer skills such as MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
• Experience in Union environment.
• Strong organization, analytical and project planning skills.
• Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
• Work effectively and collaborates well with others, internal and external.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
