Master Distiller

The Master Distiller manages the Distillery and Barrel Warehouse departments. This includes the distillery, dry house, boiler operations, barrel filling, barrel emptying, and barrel warehouse management. The Master Distiller must ensure operations are in compliance with regulatory agencies, there is adherence to quality, and production needs are met. This includes, but is not limited to evaluation of all incoming raw materials to the selection of mature whiskey.

Job Duties:

Maintain quality, capacity, and yield requirements for the Distillery. Ensure the systems deliver functionality and promote quality, consistency and efficiency. Direct the design of systems and processes to improve the Distillery and Warehouse Operations. Lead effective planning and scheduling of distillation requirements. Direct distilling operations at the Distillery. Focusing on quality, innovation, and continuity of our distilling and aging processes. Promote and represent the distillery to support the Marketing effort to establish the distillery as a highly recognized and respected producer of award winning spirits. Lead experimental and potential new whiskey development efforts at the facility. Promote and represent the distillery to support the Marketing effort to establish the distillery as a highly recognized and respected producer of award winning spirits. Lead quality efforts to efficiently and effectively operate Distillery & Dry House Operations to ensure the systems deliver functionality and promote quality, consistency and efficiency. Ensures adherence to all Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Environmental Practices. Lead the effort to assess & optimize organizational talent/structure by redeploying, hiring, training, and developing in Distillery and Barrel Warehouse Operations. Conducts Professional Development System (PDS) reviews with direct reports on identified competencies within the Distillery Department. Ensure that the system correctly reflects performance and development needs. Implements a PDS for self that will move he/she toward improving at least 1 competency per year and improving performance against position description outcomes. Lead safety awareness in the Distillery and Barrel Warehouse. Direct the creation and implementation of safety procedures and initiatives. Produce quality products while maximizing productivity, reducing costs, and leading new initiatives. Support new initiatives business development with innovative methods and product ideas. Establish and follow development plan to achieve career development and/or advancement. Develop the skills of yourself and your team to attain the desired career path within the organization.

Background Requirements:

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or related field Minimum 10 years related operational / technical Alcohol Beverage Industry experience Excellent oral & written communication skills with excellent people and motivational skills Strong desire to learn, develop, and grow with a passion for the distilling industry Good physical health. For example; capable of working on your feet, sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, and squatting Strong analytical and technical skills Record of successful leadership
