The Role

The Key Account Manager (Asia and the Middle East) role offers a unique opportunity for someone to oversee a variety of tasks which are an important part of companies goal to expand its presence into the controlled environment agriculture and vertical farming market. The position will be charged with identifying customers and introducing them to the brand while engaging key stakeholders (internal and external) by driving the launch and technical integration of seed and digital services and fostering long-term and research-based partnerships. This position is full-time (exempt) and reports to the Chief Operating Officer; the job will be based remotely with an ideal location in Singapore. This individual will play an important role in the Commercial team. This role is highly collaborative, which requires a demonstrated ability to be self-directed across various projects and requirements while also working seamlessly across cross-functional teams.

  • Accountable for understanding, documenting, and communicating to internal personnel the objectives, growth strategies, and operational imperatives of current and prospective customers
  • Ensure consistent (daily) integration of pertinent information into our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool (Zoho), which includes market intelligence, competitor intelligence, trialing process and results, call summaries, and growth pipeline
  • Identifies relevant insights/needs required to achieve value creation for the company and its customers
  • Work closely with Genetics and Digital teams to translate trial results and customer feedback to inform and guide the development of improved varieties and digital solutions
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer expectations, future production needs, and current view of germplasm/digital integrated offerings
  • Function as a product expert and technical translation resource for clients (and their production and commercial teams)
  • In coordination with COO, help facilitate commercial contract & long-term supply and innovation agreements to manage margin and create clear avenues for profitability
  • Directly own and build key relationships at multiple levels across stakeholder functions with every account and internally with the key cross-functional colleagues
  • Deliver on a pipeline of sustainable growth for the Asian and Middle Eastern market(s) through a deep understanding of customers and their business strategies, and their functional requirements
  • Lead a clear and proactive pipeline of customer engagements to build a forecast to deliver year on year growth and long-term objectives
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience, ideally in the food & ag sector
  • MUST LOVE CRM
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and presentations skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • Experience in forecasting, analyzing, and organizing customer portfolios, timelines, and production schedules to act as a valued advisor when needed
  • Direct experience working across digital, genetic, and commercial teams to deliver analytics outcomes that meet needs across the different segments of the organization
  • Possess a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and spirit of creativity & innovation
  • Ability and willingness to travel (international and domestic) as necessary to support Unfold

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in strategically assessing and achieving client success via sales techniques, including effective questioning, objection management, and competitive selling
  • Experience in influencing stakeholders across multiple levels of a highly matrixed organization, including C-level and executive stakeholders
  • Experience in selling or consulting on technical products to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to build compelling narratives and utilize storytelling as a client engagement strategy
  • Direct experience working in a start-up environment, or a mature appreciation for the opportunities and challenges arising in such an environment
