The Role

Searching for a seasoned General Manager who understands how to deliver an exceptional customer experience in a fast-paced retail environment. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead and grow a beloved local business with a multi-generational base of consumers.

We are looking for someone who can coach and partner with the full-time Store Manager and Operations Manager, to lead the business and the part-time employees who are on the front lines scooping. This individual needs to bring a calm and mature approach to managing a hectic business where lines can be long in the summer, while also thinking about how the business can expand in the future. We want an individual who is ready to roll up their sleeves on a Saturday night, scooping ice cream and greeting customers, and is equally comfortable envisioning and executing the growth strategies for the business.

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations and customer service, in partnership with the Store Manager and Operations Manager

  • Supervising team – both the full-time employees and seasonal hires

  • Scheduling – creating and managing staffing schedules, with seasonal adjustments and daily updates based on staff availability

  • HR management – hiring, training, setting HR policies and completing performance reviews

  • Oversee business P&L, including leading the monthly P&L meeting, and regular accounting and POS system activities

  • Support Operations Manager who oversees machinery, opening operations, delivery & pickup orders and other related items

  • Business analysis – reviewing revenue trends and implications for review with owner and investment committee

  • Inventory management – tracking and ordering all items, food-related but also cleaning and packaged goods

  • Oversee cake operations – inventory, manage demand spikes with holidays, graduations, etc.

  • Community involvement – working with Wellesley town departments as needed on approvals, regulations, etc.

  • Marketing – overseeing efforts to support Truly’s brand via social media, external marketing, community outreach, etc.

  • Expansion opportunities – identify areas where Truly’s can grow over time to increase revenue – e.g. catering, wider range of in-store products, etc.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Have at least 5-10 years of experience running a small retail business with significant demand spikes

  • Approach your role with a customer-first mentality and a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure the customer experience is top notch

  • Have an entrepreneurial mindset, willing to take initiative and follow problems through to resolution

  • Understand how to work and lead in a high-intensity retail world and stay cool under pressure

  • Are a team-builder and motivator with experience working in a fast-paced environment with a range of full-time and part-time seasonal employees

  • Are ready and willing to be on call when needed – especially during peak retail periods on evenings and weekends

  • Your experience in a food retail environment is not required, but appreciated
